The last few years have witnessed tremendous demand and growth in the budget segment of smartphones. This has compelled even the leading brands to offer value for money devices and give a tough competition to Chinese brands. For sometime, Asus and Lenovo both have managed to grab the attention by offering a spree of phones in low to mid-range budget segment.  The Zenfone Max from Asus and the Lenovo K3 Note have been the most popular phones in the low budget segments; both the devices have excellent features, design and configuration to offer. Our detailed comparison between these two devices will help you to make an informed buying decision.

Display and Design

The Zenfone Max arrives with a 5.5-inch HD (720 x 1280 pixels) IPS LCD display with a pixel density of 267ppi. The phone boasts of metal-effect bezel and leather pattern back cover with thin edges. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla glass which resists scratches. The phone measures 10.55mm around the waist and weighs 202 grams which gives it a bulky look. It is available in Black and White variants.

In comparison, the Lenovo K3 Note also comes with 5.5-inch IPS display but with Full HD screen resolution and much sharper pixel density of 401ppi.  The smartphone has a waistline of 8mm which makes it slimmer than its rival, but there is hardly much difference in weight (150gms). The device is available in White, Black and Yellow colours.

Configuration and Storage

The Asus Zenfone Max is powered by 1.0GHz quad-core processor seated on Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 MSM8916 Chipset which is ably supported by 2GB RAM and Adreno 306 graphics which deliver good gaming experience. Acting as the face of the device is Android Lollipop operating system with Asus proprietary ZenUI. To store data and files, the Zenfone Max houses an internal memory of 16GB which can further be expanded up to 64GB via a microSD card.

The Lenovo K3 Note on the hand gets its energy from a 64-bit 1.7GHz octa-core Mediatek MT6752 processor coupled with 2GB RAM and Mali-T760 MP2 as graphics processor which deliver a better and faster performance in comparison to its competitor. It also runs on Android Lollipop operating system. Talking about the storage, it too has an internal memory of 16GB however, the expandable memory is up to 32GB which is half of that in Zenfone Max.

Camera, Battery and Connectivity

The Zenfone Max is stacked with 13MP autofocus main camera with f/2.0 aperture lens which snaps quality pictures without any shutter lag. The ultra-fast laser and image stabilization features, lessens blurring and low light mode with the assistance of pixel-emerging technology clicks up to 400% brighter  photos at night, as claimed by the company. The 5MP front camera works well for the selfie lovers which lets them capture images at 85 degrees.

The main USP of the device is its mammoth 5,000mAh battery which not only keeps your device running for long hours but it comes with built in power bank that lets you charge other devices. The connectivity options include 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, micro-USB, Hotspot and A-GPS support.

The Lenovo K3 Note matches up to its competitors in terms of cameras. The phone is equipped with 13MP auto focus primary camera with f/2.0 aperture along with other inbuilt camera features such as Continuous Shooting, Digital image stabilization, Exposure compensation, Face detection, Geo tagging, High Dynamic Range mode (HDR), Laser AF, Self-timer and Touch to focus. The front camera is of 5MP as well.

In terms of battery, the Lenovo is backed by a 2,900mAh battery which is good enough for its size and configuration, but compared to Zenfone Max, it turns out to be no match. The phone supports 4G, Wi-Fi 802.11, b/g/n, Mobile Hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct. Bluetooth and A-GPS among others.

Verdict

Both the devices boast of powerful configurations and excellent features and come around the same budget which make it difficult for the consumers to pick one. It all boils down to your requirements, if you need more powerful processor and full HD display then you should go with Lenovo K3 Note, but if you are a heavy user and need mammoth battery life and more storage capacity, then the Asus Zenfone Max is the perfect package for your needs.
